IMDG International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code Book + Digital | IO200E + KO200E

Lays out the regulatory framework for all aspects of handling dangerous goods and maritime pollutants in sea transport.

Amendment 42-24 includes revisions to various sections of the Code and to transport requirements for specific substances. It was adopted by IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee at its 108th session in May 2024 and is mandatory from 1 January 2026, but may be applied on a voluntary basis from 1 January 2025.

Key Updates in Amendment 42-24

Adopted by the IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 108, May 2024), this amendment introduces revisions to:

• Transport requirements for specific substances
• Operational and safety guidelines

• Basic principles for handling dangerous goods, including:
  • Classification, packing, labelling, and stowage
  • Segregation, handling, and emergency response
  • Operational best practices and terminology

Who Uses It?

Primarily for mariners, but also relevant for:

• Manufacturers, packers, and shippers
• Road, rail, and port authorities
• Emergency responders

The two-volume IMDG Code is divided into seven parts:

Volume 1 (Parts 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 & 7)

• General provisions, definitions, and training
• Classification, packing, and tank provisions
• Consignment procedures
• Construction and testing of packagings, IBCs, tanks, and vehicles
• Transport operations

Volume 2 (Part 3 & Appendices)

• Dangerous Goods List, special provisions, and exceptions
• Appendices A & B: Generic/N.O.S. shipping names and glossary
• Index for quick reference
