It specifies system and equipment characteristics that should be useful to designers, installers, manufacturers, service providers and users of systems intended for operational use at aerodromes. Functional requirements are used wherever possible to allow flexibility in the design of sub-system equipment.
This specification was produced with the knowledge of existing and proven installations and in accordance with the latest results from research projects such as SESAR. Adherence to this specification is intended to enable early operational implementation of a system at an aerodrome in accordance with the aerodrome’s operational requirements.
This document does not cover datalink services and detection of pedestrians, animals or Foreign Object Debris (FOD).
Chapter 1 of this document outlines the A-SMGCS role within the air traffic management system. It describes the rationale for the system concept, provides the expected operational goals of the A-SMGCS and outlines the fundamental design concepts. It provides definitions of terms used in the document, lists of abbreviations and references to other documents.
Chapter 2 describes the core functionalities of A-SMGCS and the different services that it may provide. The services may be selected by an airport to meet its operational needs. Advice on interfaces is provided.
Chapter 3 specifies performance requirements for the core functionalities of an A-SMGCS. It also introduces Dependability Requirements applicable to an A-SMGCS to provide assurance that the sub-systems are compatible with each other and will perform their intended functions.
Chapter 4 is intended to provide information about interoperability. Due to the fact that industry standards are not yet available or at an appropriate maturity level to be mentioned, content of that chapter will be provided in a later revision of this document.
Chapter 5 describes methodologies for the verification of A-SMGCS performance requirements specified in Chapter 3. The section contains descriptions of the recommended generic test procedures needed to verify compliance at both functional element and overall system level.
Appendix A lists out the Performance Parameters in a table which are specified in this document along with associated requirements and test cases.
Appendix B provides further guidance on the expected performance of the Airport Safety Support Service and its dependencies on the Surveillance Service performance.
Appendix C lists out the contributors and members of the Working Group 41 that have created this document.
